Your Questions, Answered

  • I have been working with individuals, couples, and families for almost 25 years. I have an intuitive and flexible way of working and I make adjustments based on how I believe the individual or couple may best find the growth and healing they are looking for. I have an eclectic variety of therapeutic approaches that I incorporate into therapy including EMDR, client-centered, cognitive-behavioral, DBT, narrative, family systems, as well as psychoeducational sessions. I use a direct and compassionate way of communicating.

  • I have the utmost respect for a person’s autonomy and belief system. I see people of many faiths, belief systems, and backgrounds and unless you mention faith, I won’t.

I am a certified Christian spiritual director, and my education has been at Christian institutions, but many of my clients have no idea my beliefs and faith. I believe that therapists should be good therapists… and that is what I strive to be for whoever walks in my office.

You are coming to therapy for help and that is what I aim to do. If you would like specific topics to be discussed or not be discussed, please let me know.

  • For most of my career, I specialized in working with couples. Insurance does not typically cover “couples counseling,” and in order for therapists to bill insurance for couples therapy, the therapist must give a diagnosis and send information for one person. This felt dishonest to me, and I became uncomfortable with it.

If you would like to submit your services to your insurance, I am considered an “out-of-network provider,” and you could get your services put toward your deductible and/or get a portion of your costs refunded from the insurance company. Please inquire if you would like more information.

I know that therapy is a big cost and is a challenge for many, and I seek to help you in the most efficient way.

  • Most of my experience is with adults. I also work with teenagers who have a high capacity for reflection, communication, and openness. That age can range from age 12 and beyond.

  • I studied Marriage and Family Therapy and my license is an LMFT. In my master’s degree, I studied systems theory, which emphasizes thinking about the whole family even when working with individuals. I typically want to know information about the family you grew up in (your family of origin) so that I can more fully understand the dynamics of the present circumstances. We are shaped by the culture of our families and bring roles, rules and positive and negative patterns into our relationships and life today.
